Dogs Playing Poker

Dogs Playing Poker is a series of 18 paintings done over 100 years ago that have not only survived but worked their way into American culture, especially in the 21st century. Most of the paintings were done as cigar advertisements.

I forever associate these paintings with “man spaces” in my youth. Auto repair shops, barber shops, the office in the scrap yard where my old man worked… you could usually find at least one poster of Dogs Playing Poker next to a Playboy centerfold and a calendar.

Here’s my contribution to the canon of work. I fully expect to see this in the Louvre some day.

Also, Stimpy has stolen the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. Please ask him to return it.

Acrylic on paper and canvas. Measures 28” x 22”.
