My faithful readers know I love Rowdy Roddy Piper and the golden age of 80s WWF Wrestling. I loved to watch him in Piper’s Pit.

However, his best work was my favorite scene from John Carpenter’s 1988 movie They Live. An otherwise unremarkable 80s sci-fi action flick, in one scene Piper’s character finds some sunglasses that reveal the subliminal onslaught carried out by the ruling class — in this case alien robots — to get humans to consume, reproduce, and conform. Wow.
